Project Description

This coupe was definitely in need of some TLC, it came to us as a non-runner and had been sitting for a while in the garage of the previous owner.

After a quick check over we found the engine had no spark and after further checks discovered that there wasn’t any output from the amplifier so a modified amplifier was fitted, the engine now has a spark.

After cranking the engine it still wouldn’t start, on further investigation we found that there wasn’t any fuel flow to the injectors, so we checked the fuel pump and fuel lines and found them to be contaminated, hmmm, we’d better check the fuel tanks, through the tank flaps we inserted the camera and as thought the tanks were rusty so we cleaned the injectors, replaced the fuel pump, lines and tanks.

After this the car still wouldn’t fire correctly, so an electrical test was done between the injectors and the ECU, high resistance was found in the wiring which was traced to the rear quarter, it had rotted away.

The next and best course of action was to replace the injector system, we found a good running series 3 V12 Jaguar, removed the injection system and fitted to the Coupe, modifying the ECU to run a pre HE engine.

Replacing the injector systems was the correct way forward as the engine now fired up.

Cheer!!!!!

The rest of the car was checked over and with a few general repairs, new ball joints, brake pads taken out and cleaned, also ensuring the pistons moved etc the car was nearly finished.

The new owner wanted to replace the veneer dash panel with an Ally panel, so we got our trimmers to cover the panel they also replaced the roof lining and connolised‎ the seats – very nice job!

Whilst this work was being carried out on the interior the owner decided that the rear suspension ride height was too high so after some contemplation we all agreed it would look great with some GAZ shockers, so a GAZ coil over kit was fitted with a full adjustable ride height, rear height now reset and looking good.

Time to MOT the car and put some miles on it, give it a good clean and polish the chrome, WOW!!  It’s looking great!!

Road test was going well, felt good, engine sounded sweet, but then…. we lost third gear.

We removed the gearbox and stripped it down, in amongst all the sludge and filth we found the issue, a broken brake band.  Replaced the band and cleaned out the box, put back together and refit to the Jaguar, road test – smooth.

Finally the Coupe flies the nest.
